Sourdough Starter – I am making a sourdough starter for a friend so I thought it would be fun to share the process here. It is easy and takes 7 days but from the results of that you have a starter you can keep for years and years. I have kept my starter alive and well for almost 4 years now with very little effort. You can make bread, pizza dough, pancakes, cinnamon rolls, English muffins and a ton of other baked goods with your starter…

This is day 1…

You need:

1 cup unbleached all purpose flour
1 cup filtered water (I use the water from my fridge dispenser. Chlorinated water will inhibit your starters growth so filtered water is needed.)
Glass bowl or jar
Wooden spoon
Clean tea towel

Dump flour and water into your jar/bowl and stir it up real good. You want all the flour incorporated into the water so just mix it up good. Cover your jar with a clean tea towel and leave it sitting on your counter for 24 hours.

That’s it…just let it sit there and we’ll address it again tomorrow.

Feel free to do this process with me. It’s super easy and the whole process will never take more than 5 minutes each day.

Editing to add…all you need each day for the 7 days is unbleached all purpose flour and filtered (or well) water so don’t worry about needing strange or unusual ingredients!
